Summer Breezes

The porch is finally pretty.  I don’t know why it took us so long to work on that room.  It had never been a high priority but with it being the first room a person sees when entering our house, it should have been higher on the list.

The nasty, smelly indoor/outdoor carpet is FINALLY gone.  While it was great at catching the crud from outside, it was just plain awful to look at.  Two years ago we found some laminate flooring at our local ReStore and snatched it up, knowing we weren’t ready to do the floors but it definitely would be gone if we waited to purchase it.  So there it sat in boxes in our laundry room gathering dust.

When spring finally rolled around, I knew we had to do the porch before the weather quickly turned into summer and it would be too hot to work out there.

The funny thing is, this project was actually very minor and only took a weekend….still not sure why it took us so long to get around to it!

(Again, sorry for the phone pics, I haven’t replaced our good camera yet)

porchbeforeThe hardwood floor underneath was in bad shape in places.  At one point someone had patched in different flooring but it was very uneven and for some reason covered in plastic and duct tape.  This house.  So weird.  Nothing surprises us now.

And here’s the porch finished

porch1I love my floors.  They have a really rustic vibe to them and corrugated metal makes things more modern.

porch2Still looking for a good porch fixture.  Maybe a ceiling fan? I haven’t quite decided.

porch4The GORGEOUS table my dad built.  The stain is a blue-gray and it goes amazingly with the floors.  It’s supposed to go outside when we get a deck built, but it might just have to stay in here.

The days and nights have been so lovely these past couple of weeks.  The kids eat lunch out here every afternoon and we usually find ourselves out here for dinner too.  We’ve had a couple of good thunderstorms and there’s nothing better than sitting out on the porch listening to the rain.  I think this is my new favorite room!
